R.J. Don Stein, Director
Member of Civil Contractors Association
In August 1956 joined Coates & Co. Ltd with engineering background as assistant manager and engineer for state operations. Responsibilities included establishing what is now known as Coates Hire, Australia’s largest plant and equipment hire company.
1961-1997 operated Don Stein Plant Hire Pty Ltd and developed it to be recognised nationally and internationally in the specialist field of asphalt and soil compaction employing generally over 90-100 employees. The company was sold to Coates Hire (Australia’s largest general equipment hire company) in October 1997.
Industry Involvement
40 years service on the Committee of Management of Earthmovers and Contractors Association of New South Wales, including the position of State President.
Responsible for formation of Australian body currently known as the Civil Contractors Federation and served on the National Council as National President.
In May 1994 honoured with the inaugural Life Membership of the Civil Contractors Federation.
On April 12 1973 formed Beaconsfield Press Pty Ltd. Served as a Director and Chairman of Directors. This company produced the ‘Earthmover and Civil Contractor’ magazine, which is the leading magazine representing the Civil Construction industry nationally.
Served the Civil Construction industry over many years gaining success on several occasions with New South Wales Government on Legislative issues to greatly benefit the industry and resulting in general community advantage.

- Currently ‘ex-officio’ member of the State Committee of Management of the Civil Contractors Federation NSW branch.
- Chairman of the Microsearch Foundation of Australia.
- Member and Past President of the Rotary Club of Winston Hills NSW and involved in several facets of Rotary International local and international activities.
Leisure Interests include fishing, farming, go-cart racing, and family activities.
